John & Ruth Hanley (31.7.2010)
We are sad to hear of the disastrous fire in the village of Sangey, in North-East Congo, near the area John has visited.. About 270 people were killed when trying to recuperate gasoline flowing from an overturned fuel tanker. The Christians in Sangey report that the local church lost about 30 men, women and children in the blaze, and many homes. They ask our prayers for the injured and the bereaved families.
The Congolese Christians have again invited John for Bible teaching and humanitarian help but unfortunately it seems his visit will have to be postponed until 2011. The collaboration of Harry Johnson (Kigoma, Tanzania) is almost indispensable but Harry’s load of responsibility is enormous this year and he cannot see a window of opportunity to make our usual annual visit to local churches in Congo and the Congolese refugee camp in Tanzania.
