IJim & Betty Burnett 27.02.10 Over two  weeks have already gone past since we left Edinburgh. The circumstances were sad due to the home call and burial of our brother in law Tom Binnie and also accompanying Betty’s sister Agnes, in the arrangements prior to and post burial of her husband. Despite that, these three weeks in very cold conditions were a good substitute for a holiday and it was the best rest we have had in years since no meetings were arranged. We feel sure the Lord was behind this too as this has never happened while remaining in Argentina.

We praise God for the encouragements in our work for Him, in Chingola.  The Centre is busier than ever, and so many people are being blessed through the different ministries there!  Best of all, we are struggling to keep up with the demand for Bibles!!!  Ian said they had a great day at the Ndola prisons on Thursday - lots of good conversations and encouragements!  We have just heard recently that Postal Bible School would like to start up in Zambia, so we are preparing a couple of rooms in the Centre for them.  That's really exciting news!  With the Emmaus courses for adults, and the PBS courses for children (and up), even more people will be studying God's Word!!!  The two works should really compliment each other, and encourage whole families to spend time with God's Word! One of our more recent 'excitements' has been a tiny little stirring of interest in Christian things, amongst some of the ex-pat community in Chingola.  We, and others, have been particularly praying for a breakthrough in this group, who are generally known as a hard, godless, immoral,  group, who want nothing to do with the Lord, or anything Christian.  Since our Christmas carol service, especially, we have seen a slight 'softening' amongst several of the ladies, and a desire to discuss Christian issues.  They have been coming to the Sunday morning service a few times now .... just a glimmer, but we're hoping for great things amongst them ... and then their husbands ... and then ....!! One of the older men became a Christian recently, in S.Africa, and another has just admitted to being a backslider, so God is definitely moving!  Please pray for wisdom, love and patience, as we try to be a light to them, by our lifestyle, as well as in our words.

We were in dire need of rain.  Our friends at a local mosque were praying for rain and eventually asked us as a Christian community to pray because “God answers your prayers”.  We did – and it began to rain the next day, and has not stopped since. At all.  The ground is sodden.  We await the next request,

“please pray it will stop”!  We are thankful for this much needed rain, but are even more thankful for the witness of God’s grace and power in the surrounding community.

We are looking forward to the visit of John Aitken and Howard Peebles from Echoes, who are due to arrive on Friday 12th, leaving on Sunday 14th.  I hope the rain stops and the mist clears long enough for them to see the beauty of the surrounding mountains, which will by this time be well covered in snow.Next week (from 15th) I plan to be in Faisalabad to visit the Hostel, KhushHalSchool, the Christian bookroom and several families. Will be good to see folks again and pick up on the different projects there. The following week, I hope to attend a seminar in Lahore on developing Interpersonal Skills. Either coming or going, or maybe both, I plan to look in on Eunice Jones in Islamabad. Not long after I return, there is the Executive Board meeting for Akash Christian Society (governing the hospital) on 8th March.  So the remaining days before I leave for Faisalabad are going to be full.

Please continue to pray for this country.  The attack in Karachi at the weekend was particularly horrific as the second attack was outside the Emergency Dept of the hospital where victims of the first attack were being treated. It is understood that several Christians also died in the second attack.  Presumably they were workers at the hospital.  It defies all understanding.

On Monday we spent a very pleasant day with the Jack family and caught up on news and I was able to show Isabel some of the craft ideas I'd brought with me which might be of use for the Craft Group at their church. They meet once a fortnight doing alternately crafts and meeting to pray. Isabel wants me also to help her with patchwork as she missed out when we ran a patchwork class in the Home in 2003 as she was too busy.On Sunday evening we went to the church where we went last time. Everyone was pleased to see us again. It was lovely to be made so welcome. Roy has already been asked to speak at one of the services in March! One thing we miss is the cup of coffee between services - mind you a cold drink would be more appreciated here
