Tanzania

Located on the east coast of Africa just south of the equator, Tanzania is home to Mount Kilimanjaro and the famous Serengeti Game Reserve. In 1964, Zanzibar and Tanganyika united, so forming the country of Tanzania. Religion in Tanzania is divided equally between Christianity, Islam and traditional religions. However, many that would adhere to Islam or Christianity would also hold on to elements of their traditional religions. Numbers in the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons and the Universal. Church are growing.

Present Work

Current work includes:

Dar-es-Salaam: schools work, evangelism and Bible studies, Sunday school

Moshi: children's centre/orphanage, teaching in schools and local churches, village medical work, pioneer evangelism, training young men

Bukoba: evangelism, development of local churches, practical caring ministries

A large number of German Brethren missionaries (about 50) work in the south of Tanzania running hospitals and Bible schools.

Needs

Dar-es-Salaam:

Teachers for an expanding missionary-run primary and secondary school

Pioneering evangelists and people able to teach the Bible and disciple believers

Moshi:

Experienced social workers to assist in children's home both short and long-term

Bible teaching personnel to assist in church and schools

Nursing staff with tutoring experience and qualifications to assist in establishing medical facilities in village context

Physiotherapy personnel to work in the outpatient hostel

Rural based (north and central Tanzania, in village and small township):

Pioneer evangelism and church planting and support of the existing small assemblies. The rural situations are also open for developing medical, vocational training and community projects
