Republic of Ireland
The 'Emerald Isle' has of late also become known as the 'Celtic Tiger' due to the tremendous boom in the Irish economy. In part a result of increased European integration, the land of the Irishman, of the Irish jokes ('How did the Irishman burn his ear? He was ironing when the phone rang'), the leprechaun and, of course, lots of green, is becoming a centre for high technology companies. Church attendance remains very high with the largest proportion of the community being Catholic, though nominalism is becoming the order of the day.
