A multicultural nation, Malaysia is made up of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Eurasian and indigenous people groups. As a result Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu and Islamic beliefs are all evident. The Malay people, who are Muslim, are the most dominant group. Natural resources like wood and oil, and considerable industrial development, led to a huge boom in the Malaysian economy in the early 90’s. That was offset by recent financial difficulties in the whole region, which is now beginning to recover again.
Present Work
Assembly work in Malaysia is well established and is managed by national workers. Malaysia is becoming a sending country and has missionaries working in the region of South-East Asia and throughout Malaysia.
Bible training centres are available and many international evangelical supporting organisations are also in the country.
Needs
Malaysia has a mature Brethren work and is essentially self-supporting. The churches are mission-minded and the Malaysian Missionary Service (formed five years ago) is sending workers out into the multi-cultural environment of Malaysia and the surrounding South-East Asian countries.
Short-term Bible teachers and specialists are welcome.
